Steve Jobs’ decision to quit the coolest company ever, Apple Inc was not surprising nor was it unexpected. His health has been deteriorating for some time and it was plain for all to see his cadaverous frame at the launch of iPad 2 recently. Described variously as a genius, an artist, visionary and entrepreneur, it would be [...]
In a report by Goldman Sachs, it was predicted that the economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China or BRIC for short, will emerge and overtake the current major economic powers such as that of the G7 nations by 2050. In fact, China has prematurely surpassed previous forecasts by moving past Germany and Japan to [...]
In the everyday pursuit of meeting revenue goals, we often tend to overlook certain simple, yet fundamental mantras which can be beneficial in the long run. Easier said than done, but a cut throat competitive environment barely offers us a chance to take a few steps back and contemplate whether we can look at our [...]
These days, every company has some kind of green strategy – but how real are these strategies? How many of them are really committed to a less polluted, energy-saving, healthy, sustainable future – and how many are just paying lip-service to the latest trend? I suspect many consumers are suffering from “green fatigue”, and will [...]
2011 is the Year of Living Dangerously for media. It is the year Social Media came of age and traditional media finally took notice of its young upstart sibling. The Arab Spring, the Singapore Elections, London Riots and the Rupert Murdoch owned News of the World Phone Tapping scandal were some of the major news points [...]
Relationships have always been crucially important in Asian societies – think of Chinese Clan Associations, India’s Community Clubs, the extended families of the Malays, the lifetime company loyalty of the Japanese. Relationships – with the responsibilities and obligations they entailed – were traditionally clear cut. They were perhaps narrow, but very deep. Today, however, we [...]
When Harry Redknapp took over at my beloved Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs to the rest of you who know very little about Barclays Premier League), in the autimn of 2008, it was not the most popular choice but was better than anything as we were rock bottom, with 2 points from 8 games and definitely staring relegation at the end of a 9 month season. This was not good. There was a lukewarm reception from us Spurs fans about Harry’s appointment.
We’ve had a successful year in 2010. What started with ominous warnings about a double dip recession has been relatively smooth sailing without being spectacular. This is what one might call a character cementing year.
Print double sided, recycle the papers, plastics, cans and what have you. Keep your air con temperature to 25 degrees Celsius and switch off the lights and switches when not in use. Does all these sound familiar? Well, such small acts actually help to save the planet and isn’t that what we all want. To [...]
The Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG) has recently come to a close in a spectacular fashion with a wonderfully choreographed closing ceremony. The opening ceremony some 11 days earlier was also very much a highlight.
The games went relatively well with the exception of a few (expected) hiccups such as the ticketing problem on the Delhi 2010 website as well as complaints about transport and catering. Australia and New Zealand have praised the games as ‘exceptional and have congratulated Delhi on the success.
